Council Members
Dr. Mark Bowman BDSc
President
Mark joined Branch Council in 2004. He was Vice Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee and has chaired Groups Q and J. He has been Secretary and President of the Australian Society of Periodontology Victorian Branch. Mark has been a member of Rotary FAIM dental teams in India and Vietnam. He has a general practice in Hawthorn East.
Dr. Stephen Cottrell BDSc (Melb), MSD (Indiana), FICD, FADI, Dip Am Board Periodontology
Vice-President
Stephen is well known as a lecturer in periodontics and has served the Australasian Osseointegration Society as Federal Secretary and as President of the Australian Society of Periodontology Victorian Branch. He joined Council in 1999, having been Chairman of the Graduate Education Committee and a member of the Infection Control Committee. Stephen is Vice Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee and the Quality Assurance committee. He is Board certified with the American Board of Periodontology. He has a specialist practice in Melbourne and is a consultant to the Royal Melbourne Hospital; and is a part-time clinical demonstrator at The University of Melbourne.
Dr. Neil Hewson BSc BDSc LDS FADI, FICD, FPFA
Honorary Secretary and Federal Councillor
Known for his dedication to the dental profession, Neil has been Honorary Secretary of the Branch since 1997. Elected to Council in 1987, he was ADAVB President in 1995-96 and is Federal Vice President, having been a Federal Councillor since 1996. He has represented the Branch many times and has served on more Branch Committees than anyone else. He is currently Chairman of both the Branch and Federal Constitution committees. Neil and his brother Ian have a general practice in Preston.
Dr. Greg Morris BDSc LDS
Immediate Past President
Greg joined the Branch Council in 2004 after having been involved with a number of committees. He was Chairman of the Dental Health Education Committee, Group E and served on the Graduate Education Committee. He has also been Secretary of the DHEC, GEC and Practice Management Committee. He was also a member of the Infection Control Committee. He has a general practice in Hawthorn.
Dr. Anne Harrison BDSc (Hons), DClinDent (Endo)
Executive Councillor, Vice Chairman Finance and Audit Committee
Anne joined Council in 2003, having chaired the Recent Graduates Committee. She is a member of the Infection Control Committee as well as representing a number of suburban groups. She is currently engaged in full time study completing her Clinical Doctorate in Endodontics at The University of Melbourne. Before returning to study, Anne was in general practice in Essendon and volunteered in dental teams in Vietnam and East Timor.
Dr. Anne Stewart BDSc
Executive Councillor
Anne joined Council in 2005 and has been an Executive Officer since 2006. She is a past Chair of the Mid-Western Group and is a member of the ANZSPD as well as the Victorian Women Dentists' Association. She and her husband, Don, have a general practice in Ballarat.
Dr. David J. Curnow BDSc
Chairman Finance and Audit Committee
David joined the Council in 1992 and moved up the ranks as Honorary Treasurer and Vice President and was President in 2002-03. He has served on numerous Standing and Ad Hoc Committees including Legislation, Infection Control, Constitution and Recent Graduates Committees. He is currently Chairman of the Finance and Audit and Third Party Committees. David is the Victorian representative on the Guild Liaison Committee and has chaired the Suburban Group L and Practice Administration Committees. He has also acted as both Country Group Co-ordination and Suburban Group Co-ordinator. His general practice is in Dandenong.
Dr. Andrew J. Barnes BDSc
A Council since 1996, Andrew has served as Honorary Treasurer, Vice President and was President in 2001-02. He has been a member and Chairman of the Legislation, Recent Graduates and Finance and Audit Committees. Andrew is currently Chairman of the Disputes and Ethics Committee. He has also served on the Department of Human Services Dental Intern Working Party. He has a general practice in Mill Park
Dr. Chris Callahan BA BDSc FRACDS
Chris became Honorary Treasurer in 2003, a year after being elected to Branch Council and was President in 2005-06. He is a Senior Clinical Demonstrator Undergraduate Removable Prosthodontics at The University of Melbourne and Visiting Dentist at the Alfred Hospital. Chris is a general practitioner in Malvern.
Dr. Pamela Craig BDSc MDSc LDS DipFOd
Pamela joined Council in 1999 and has served on a number of committees including the Dental Nurses Training Education Committee, the Dental health Education Committee and the Graduate Education Committee. She is lecturer in Oral Anatomy and Radiology at the School of Dental Science, Dental Consultant on the Medical Panel at the Transport Accident Commission of Victoria and Honorary Forensic Odontologist at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine. Pamela has been a Clinical Demonstrator at the Dental Therapy School, School Dental Service and Senior Clinical Demonstrator at the Department of Child Health.
Dr. Bob Cvetkovic BDSc LDS
Bob joined Council in 2006, having been Secretary to Group E for four years and is currently Treasurer of that Group. Through his work in Donate-a-Day, he is known to many simply as Dr Bob. He is a general practitioner in Camberwell.
Dr. Matthew Hopcraft BDSc MDSc BA
Matt joined the Council in 2005. He is a former a former member of the Branch's Continuing Professional Development Committee. While undertaking doctoral studies, Matt is a lecturer at the School of Dental Science, The University of Melbourne. He is a former member of the Royal Australian Army Dental Corps and has worked in general practices and for a community health centre.
Dr. David S Houghton BDSc B Sc (Hons) MDSc LDS PhD
Elected to Council in 1984, David has served as Executive Officer, Honorary Treasurer, Vice President, President and Honorary Secretary. He has been involved in a number of Committees as well as having been Chairman of Suburban Group K, Dental Health Education, Finance, Legislation and Appointments Advisory Committees. He has also been Federal President and Chairman of various ADA Inc committees. David is also ADA Delegate for both the FDI and Asia Pacific Dental Federation and ADA representative for Professions Australia. He has been a clinical demonstrator with the Department of Conservative Dentistry, The University of Melbourne and RDHM House Officer. He has also been a member of the RAAF Specialist Reserve. David became a Branch Community Relations Officer earlier this year, resulting in him restricting his hours at his orthodontics practice.
Dr. John Matthews BDSc MDSc LDS FADI FICD
A member of Branch Council since 1992, John has held a number of offices including Executive Officer, Honorary Treasurer, Vice President and President. He has chaired numerous Branch committees and has represented the profession nationally on the NH and MRC (infection control), National Advisory Committee on Oral Health and in Victoria on the DPBV selection panel, Auditor-generals review of dental services, and the DHS Dental Workforce Reference Group. His duties reflect his active involvement with the Branch and Federal body throughout much of his professional career. He was elected President of ADA Inc. in 2006. John is in general practice in Essendon.
Dr. Ming Ann Ong BDSc
Having graduated in 2003, Ming joined the Council in 2006. Ming is a member of the Finance and Audit Committee. She is employed at a practice in Ballarat. During her undergraduate studies, Ming did dental work at Sale prison and is involved in educating carers at nursing homes in Ballarat about the importance of oral health.
Dr. Jonathan Tversky BDSc MDSc FRACDS
Jonathan joined the Council in 2004. He is a Senior Honorary Fellow of Oral Medicine at the School of Dental Science, The University of Melbourne and Coordinator of the Oral Mucosal Clinic, Skin and Cancer Foundation. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Oral Medicine Society of ANZ (Vic) going on to be Vice President and President. Jonathan is a member of the Finance and Audit Committee. He has specialist oral medicine practices in Melbourne and Doncaster.

Gary joined the Council in 2006. He is Secretary of Group E. A Senior Fellow at the School of Dental Science, The University of Melbourne, Gary is a former convenor of periodontics at the school. He also conducts clinical research in implantology for an international company. Gary's practice is in Balwyn.
