To maximise performance in sport and exercise, nutrition plays an important role in fuelling the body. However, whilst some food and fluid recommendations have helped enhance mental and physical performance, evidence has shown that some contribute to the decline in oral health. Dental practitioners are charged with the role of assisting patients in reaching and maintaining optimal oral health and minimising risks of dental diseases. This presentation aims to discuss the unique risks to oral health athletes may experience as well as preventative strategies that can build your practice.

Complications in implant dentistry - Getting to the root of the problem Professor Charles Goodacre Recorded: 30 July 2010
Online: 1 hour Scientific CPD. ADAVB Member: $75 Purchase Online Seminar

Endosseous root form implants have significantly changed the paradigm of diagnosis and treatment planning in prosthodontics and they provide many benefits for patients. However, there are complications that can occur and this presentation will identify and discuss the most common clinical complications occurring in conjunction with endosseous root form implants. Incidence data will be provided based upon clinical studies and reports published throughout the world. The information contained in this presentation will enhance the development of effective treatment plans, promote optimal doctor-patient communication regarding anticipated outcomes, and facilitate the diagnosis of complications that occur following treatment. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
• Identify the types of complications that can occur in conjunction with endosseous root form implants.
• List the factors that are most likely to cause each type of complication.
• Compare implant success as it relates to arch, type of prosthesis, the oral environment, and systemic conditions.

Dental implants - Panacea or Pandora's box? Dr Stephen Cottrell Recorded: 31 July 2010
Online: 1 hour Scientific CPD. ADAVB Member: $75 Purchase Online Seminar
The introduction of osseointegrated implants into mainstream dentistry has revolutionised clinical practice. However, are implants the panacea that we hoped for? We are now learning that osseointegrated implants are subject to a number of problems that are not just mechanical in nature but also biological. Peri-implantitis is of growing concern and is perhaps far more common than we first thought. Whether or not you are actively involved in implant dentistry you will come across patients with osseointegrated implants. Consequently you need to be aware of what represents implant health and how this can be maintained. What are the signs of peri-implant disease and how can this be managed? We need to be able to distinguish which patient groups are at risk of developing peri-implant disease.

Dentine hypersensitivity; It's presentation and management strategy in Australian dental practice Professor John Spencer Recorded: 31 July 2010
Online: 1 hour Scientific CPD. ADAVB Member: $75 Purchase Online Seminar
About one in 10 patients have dentine hypersensitivity in Australia. Premolar teeth and buccal surfaces are most frequently affected. Dentine hypersensitivity is associated with pain and anxiety and it has a surprisingly high social impact relative to other dental diagnoses. Australian dentists’ perceptions of predisposing factors, triggers and underlying biology of the pain mechanism for dentine hypersensitivity rationally lead on to the various strategies for the management of dentine hypersensitivity and expectations of the outcomes of treatment. These perceptions can be used to describe the prevailing view on the management of dentine hypersensitivity, which in turn sets the context against which any new treatment approach or agent will be assessed by dentists for its adoption.
