Sustainable CPD

The ADAVB has adopted ISO 26000:2010 Guidance on Social Responsibility, and a Sustainability Policy and is therefore committed to adopting and promoting measures to reduce and offset carbon emissions. In doing so, ADAVB is implementing the following environmentally friendly practices in our CPD event administration:

To reduce our wastage and carbon emissions:

  • Soft copies of presenter handouts and notes will be emailed to delegates within 3 working days after the event date.
  • ADAVB will supply limited notepads and pens, and delegates are encouraged to bring their own along to events.
  • ADAVB carefully monitor registrations and will only cater (notes, food and beverage, etc) to the exact number of delegates registered per event.
  • Delegates are asked to return name badges at the conclusion of the event for re-use and recycling.
  • We seek to only use venues that are easily accessible via public transport and encourage delegates to utilise public transport where possible.
  • Event reminders will outline tram numbers and closest train stations to the venue.

To offset carbon emissions:

  • Fees calculated according to a formula provided by Climate Friendly* will be paid to that organisation, whose offsets are all eligible under the Australian National Carbon Offset Standard, which came into effect on 1 July 2010.  That standard provides assurance of the integrity of voluntary carbon offsets and carbon neutral claims by organisations and products. When you see the Climate Friendly logo associated with an ADAVB CPD event, you know that we have taken action to reduce and offset carbon emissions caused by that activity.
  • ADAVB generally uses local speakers, however we will always pay the carbon emission surcharge from airlines when using interstate or international speakers.

In addition, ADAVB is working towards:

  • Providing online registration for CPD events
  • Confirmation letters and receipts to be sent via email

* As at November 2010, Climate Friendly was the only Australian member of the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA).  ICROA is a not-for-profit alliance of leading carbon reduction and offset.  It provides leadership and a unified voice advocating for rigorous industry standards.
