Smoking is the number one cause of preventable death in Victoria.
The ADAVB is proud to support Quit Victoria in its efforts to improve tobacco control and smoking cessation measures, in the interests of preventing deaths and improving the health of the community.
Smoking is known to be the key risk factor for oral cancer and periodontitis (gum disease). Smoking also has an unfavourable impact on healing and dental treatment outcomes.
Quit advises that of the 80% of long-term smokers who start before the age of eighteen, half will die of a smoking-caused disease. However if people don't start smoking in adolescence, there's a strong chance they never will.
Quit Victoria is supporting the Victorian Government's new package of proposals (September 2008), which aim to address the devastating toll of tobacco in Victoria with a particular focus on young people and smoking.
