After a three year project period, 30 June 2011 is the last day for orders to be placed for amalgam separators to entitle Victorian dental practices to “Dentists for Cleaner Water” rebates. As previously advised, orders placed after 30 June 2011 will not be eligible for rebate payments.
We remind those dental practices who have installed ISO 11 143 compliant amalgam separators to immediately send any outstanding rebate form you may be holding, along with copies of receipts, to ADAVB (attention Ian Crawford) for processing. Where orders have been placed, but installations are yet to occur as at 30 June, please ensure that evidence of the orders being placed before 30 June is included in any claim documentation submitted to the Branch in the coming weeks. Practices that still have queries regarding their rebate entitlement are encouraged to contact Ian (Wednesday/Thursday) on 88254611 or email ian.crawford@adavb.org with your question. Please note that Ian's role in processing outstanding claims ceases on 30 September 2011. If you have not already done so, PLEASE ACT NOW.
Helping protect Victoria’s environment The Dentists for Cleaner Water project is a partnership between the water industry in Victoria, the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch (ADAVB) and the Environment Protection Authority Victoria. This program aims to promote the installation and use of amalgam separators in private sector dental practices, to help eliminate mercury from Victoria’s sewerage systems. The project ends soon so please act now if you have not already done so (see the Special Request below).
Amalgam separators – an important water filter The presence of mercury in Victoria’s sewerage systems not only limits the recovery of waste, it compromises both environmental and human health. Amalgam separators help filter mercury from waste water before it reaches our sewerage systems.
The mercury problem Mercury is being released into Victoria’s sewerage systems from a range of industrial, commercial and domestic premises. It is believed that dental practices are contributing to this problem through the extraction and treatment of amalgam fillings. Installation of amalgam separators will make a significant contribution to the process of eradicating mercury from our sewerage systems.
The solution – the Amalgam Separator Rebate scheme The Victorian Government is offering all private sector dentists a rebate for purchasing and installing amalgam separators and entering into an amalgam waste collection agreement. See FAQs on this page for more details.
